Blog
We are (honestly because of how long this post is) adding a blog to ScratchUpload that we will be posting updates to as well as here (https://scratchupload.org/blog) The discord will still be the main source of infomation and updates for scratch, please join it here - https://discord.gg/cGyW264KF6
Fixed
- Links on Stats page didn't go to the status page
- Tumbler Images not being able to be uploaded
- a bunch of networking bugs and routing issues
Network Changes
In the past month we have upgraded a lot about the network, added more servers, and made other changes to help distribute the load between the nodes.
US-1 is still having issues for what ever reason but we are still looking into that one, and we might delete it and re-deploy it at a new DC to see if that helps.
F.A.Q. (from the survey)
I am going to answer some of the questions and note some of the comments and questions asked during the survey here. (most of these were not put in question form, but i am making it question form)
- Why can't i rename folders or change my user name
that is due to a technical limitation that it out of our control. When you have a "folder" (including your root (main) folder) it just named that way on our side, so for example https://scratchupload.org/eightball/test/test.webp on the server side its name is just this eightball/test/test.webp there is no such thing as "folders" to the storage backend (this is a good write up about why here. This is the reason why you can't rename folders or rename your username.
we can change your username for you (just email us at admin@8ball.space from your scratchUpload email) because we have stuff that can run for hours on end renaming all your images that won't time out. You can't do that in the browser. And how we have it setup to happen, we have complete eyes on whats going on when we do it so we can fix any issues that arise (most of the time its just our script skipped one or two and we have to go into the storage providers and do it ourselves), but if we were to have some way of this tool being user fronting, we would lose that ability and more issues would arise from it.
This is something we have thought a lot about, and tried a lot ways, but sadly its just not possible for us.
- Why can't I add my own websites to the whitelist.
This is a work in progress, mostly to figure out how to automatically detect if the website is compatible with ScratchUpload's privacy features.
In order for a website or a app to be added to the whitelist, the service needs to be sending special unique information to our servers so we can identify it. Not all websites do this, and websites that don't do this are not able to be added to the whitelist.
- How do i copy a link?
To copy the image link in Scratch, just click on the image link in the dashboard (on computer) or click the copy icon on mobile!
On computer you will see the background behind the link flash a slightly darker (or lighter depending on the theme you have) color, that means that it copied correctly!
Okay because its easier for us to write about stuff in FAQ format (though we suck at writing FAQs), going to be writing about some of the stuff above in that format.
F.A.Q (New Domain)
- So Scratch has a new domain, will this replace the old one?
No! This will not replace the old one compleatly, the plan is to slowly migrate the dashboard over to it and have it redirect to the new domain over time.
- Will i need to change all my image links.
You will NOT have to change your image links This is a user front end change only, we recommend using the .org links from now on, and if you want replacing all the links, but it is not mandatory. As of right now, there are no plans to make it mandatory.
- Why are you changing the domain?
This is because of issues we and some users have been having with the .xyz domain, and so we can properly route stuff as needed.
F.A.Q (Upload Scanning)
- Why are you now scanning our images.
Due to an incident, we are now going to be adding active image scanning on upload for all users.
- Are you selling access to our images?
No. we would never do that. Ever.
- Who is doing the scanning?
Bunny.net will be doing the scanning.
- Will bunny see our images?
No, they only get a PDQ hash, (a type of fingerprint that cannot be reversed to the original image) that they will check against a DB of known abuse material to see if it Matches.
If it Matches, then the request will be blocked.
- What about false positives?
They are extremely unlikely, and our provider hasn't seen any false positives happen, nor have we have we have ran over 4 thousand images though this system
if any false positives happen, PLEASE let us know, so we can give that to our provider and work it out with them as soon as it happens.
Conclusion
Thank you so much to everyone!
Want to also give a shoutout to our supporters! Thank you for supporting scratch!
We know that its been a very long while since our last update, but we have been focusing on stability and uptime then features.
This past month has been kinda rough with a bunch of nodes having issues, we are aware of those issues, and we are fixing them, hopefully what we have done will keep all the issues at bay for a while.
We know that some of the things in this update (the upload scanning mostly) might be shocking or unsettling, I just wanted to reassure that we did everything we could to keep privacy paramount and still at the front of this project. Thank you so much for trusting us. That isn't something we take lightly.
With all of that being said. We are here for you, and if there is anything, anything at all we can do to make ScratchUpload better for you, please reach out, no question is too stupid, and we will do what ever we can to make sure that you can use what we have worked hard to build! (Including buying an entire new domain lol)
you can reach us in <#1407385583319388253> (on the discord), via email at admin@8ball.space or DM us on discord. and we will respond as soon as we can!
Thank you for reading this stupidly long message, and please stay safe out there!
